“Though
my soul may set in darkness, It will rise in perfect light, I have
loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night” ~Sarah Williams
For the 23-year-old rape survivor and for the women of Delhi: though we
cannot be there with you to raise our voices in protest against the
perpetrators of this heinous crime, and the ineffective governance which
has allowed for the continued existence of a society where the sexual
harassment of its women is the norm, your American sisters, and women
the world over, stand with you in solidarity in your fight for justice
for the victim of this crime, and to ensure the safety and rights of
women everywhere. Change starts at the grassroots level, and you are
powerful facilitators of that change. Your voices are heard here in the
United States, in Canada, in Europe and across Asia. Your struggle is
also ours, for violence against women is not just Delhi's problem or
India's problem, it is a global problem. We send our prayers and support
from across the oceans, we extend our hand in solidarity, sisterhood
and friendship, and we add our voices to yours in the fight for justice
and equality for women, so that women everywhere may take back the
night.
I have been so disturbed by the news out of Delhi lately. I am glad you are posting this, will be happy to share this on my blog!
