April @ JBS Mercantile

It's a gorgeous day outside and I am knee deep in spring cleaning today, but wanted to take a few minutes to share my creations with the April Kit at JBS Mercantile, seriously one of my favorite kits *ever*. Pop over to the gallery and check out the other creations from the DT as well as this fantastic project kit designed by the incredibly talented Lisa. Back to attacking dust and grime!

This card was made with the box of American Crafts Just Write Frames and Journaling Cards, the reverse side has a place to adhere a gift card and a stamped sentiment:

March Gallery and Chat at Jenni Bowlin Studio

March came in like a lamb, not a lion! This will go down as the year that there was no winter... which is nearly true, we've had one good snowfall since the beginning of the year and nothing since. And the temperature has been unseasonably warm. Alekha isn't too happy about it -- she got a sled for Christmas and it pretty much sits nearly shiny new. But I'm not complaining at all, lol!

Jenni's March kit features the new Magpie papers and they are SO beautiful. You really have to see them in person, as the web doesn't show their muted beauty quite as well! This kit really just clicked for me -- I love when that happens! Here are my contributions to the gallery this month - and be sure to check out the rest of the DT work as well.

The last project is from the darling project kit that Betsy created. It's truly "a box full of happiness"!

Mini Valentine Mailbox

Here's a little project I created for the JBS Inspiration Blog. I found the mini mailbox at Hobby Lobby, and altered it quickly and easily with a little paper, paint and glitter, then popped a few JBS bingo cards inside. I couldn't find one big enough to be able to close the mailbox with the cards inside, but this would make cute decor, or you could cut the cards down (or remove them altogether) and replace with a little sweet something - chocolate kisses, perhaps, to give as a gift. January at JBS

Brrrrr! It's so cold here! We're headed to Disney in a couple weeks for a very short four day trip away, and I am counting the days to warmer weather. I also found out that Alekha may be allergic to cold weather. As ridiculous as that sounds, I was surprised to find out there actually is such a thing - it's called cold urticaria and essentially, she has been breaking out every time she gets prolonged exposure to cold. This is the first year we've seen that happen. We were at the park on a bitingly cold day about a week ago and after ten minutes outside, her face started breaking out in hives. I was racking my brain to figure out what could have caused it as she had never been allergic to anything before. We took her to the doctor and they had us give her Benadryl. It settled back down once she returned to a warm environment but it has happened again, on and off over the past week, always when she goes out into the cold for any short or long period of time. She's sorely disappointed as she had received a sled as one of her Christmas toys and thought she'd never be able to play in cold weather again. I assured her that we may be able to go sledding yet (once we get some real snow) but I am not sure if I need to take her to an allergist or not as her pediatrician said it may be viral. So for now we wait and see! But in the meantime I'm using it as an argument to the husband, that it's yet another reason why we were meant to move to Florida. He doesn't wholly disagree!

It is chock full of lovely Valentine inspired bits, but I wanted to use it to make a bridal shower gift for my future sister in law, so I ended up going very minimal on the supplies and plan to use the leftovers for valentine crafting! December JBS Mercantile & Font Love

December Kit Gallery Updates are up at JBS Mercantile and my contributions are below. I have to say I loved this kit so much, the creamy and buttery yellow tones were right up my alley!

I also have been really getting into fonts on my work lately. The Sweet November layout below uses Burgues Script, a font I have been eyeing for a long time and finally took the plunge to purchase it. It's a really beautiful calligraphic font by Alejandro Paul of Sudtipos Type and can be purchased at Veer.com. Next on my wish list is Compendium which is equally beautiful. I was thrilled to find a font similar to Compendium in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which I've used on the very last layout ("Blessed") below.

 

Another great site I've stumbled across for free fonts is Font Squirrel. Lots of high quality professional fonts including the ones I used in the layout below:

Other than that, we're just busy with Christmas preparations, have a great week ahead!

October @ JBS

Right now I am loving the October Kit at JBS Mercantile. The Design Team contributed some amazing work this month. Check out the gallery here, and you can take a look at my contributions below. The first photo features elements from the Project Kit, one of the loveliest ones I have seen all year.

 The stitched doily paper was in the Artisan add-on kit, and those gorgeous lace flowers are in the main kit. I am in love with the Kaisercraft Sparklets that I used in the centers which are from the project kit.

 

 

 

 

This is a quick little project I did for the Mercantile Blog - using a die from Papertrey Ink. Planning to do a bunch of these little goodie bags for the Fall Party at Alekha's school.

 

 

 

JBS September

September at JBS is so lovely. The designers only just received our kits since Jenni was waiting on CHA product to come in, but I was able to get these projects done. It is the kind of kit that makes you want to hole up and craft for days without interruption! There will be more than one gallery update this month because we received our kits a little late, so you can check back at the site periodically - I still have lots and lots of kit left to play with! 

 
 

 

 
 

 

JBS August Shares...and Copyright Philosophy

Thank you for your comments, it was nice to know I was missed! I am popping in quickly to share some layouts from the lovely August kit over at JBS. The kits are all sold out now, but I do believe they have a handful of the add-ons (Artisan and Antiquarian) still remaining and even a few of the project kits.  I received the Artisan add on that contained the chipboard pennants I used in this first layout below, and loved that add on! The caramel colored lace trim from the kit and the bank ledger paper was also hoard-worthy! Jenni is selling the bank ledger paper in sheets of three in the mercantile store here. Everyone on the team went gaga over the exclusive stamp in the kit (see the last layout on this post). Hopefully you got one, because that was an amazing stamp!

Also, if you haven't noticed, I updated the copyright language on my blog. I have re-thought my stance on the whole copyright issue (only as it relates to my work on this blog). I've been scrapbooking for many years now, and I have been on both sides of the scraplifting debate at one time or another. I came to the conclusion some time ago, but am even more a believer now, that it is the journey and not the destination that counts. And I believe that there are enough ideas in the world for all of us to participate in this craft we love without feeling threatened that someone stole or appropriated "my" style or ideas.

I said this in my copyright paragraph at left and will say it again here, I am a firm believer that generosity of spirit is greater than any personal pride or glory I could achieve from claiming to be the first or the best to do anything. Humble spirit, happy heart, and my soul is freed from being able to send this out into the universe. That's all I have to say today!

Some lovely news -- starting this month, Jenni Bowlin is releasing exclusive stamps and stencils that will only be available in her kits. (As if you needed another reason to subscribe!)
